AK Mishra wins Patna golf crown

Patna, February 6, 2010: Lt Colonel AK Mishra of Ranchi Mishra carded 6-under in the 0 to 18-handicap event to win Kalayanpur Cup, the hot tile of the Patna golf championships here on Saturday.

After first day practice session, the tournament that attracted about 200 amateurs vying foe top honours in different categories, saw stiff contest through out the day on the lush green turf of Patna Golf Club.

Patna lad Roshan Sharan scored one under the course 69 to capture the RD Joshi Cup.
Another promising Patna golfer Aman Raj, who created ripples in the national junior circuit recently, made his presence, felt winning the PKJ Menon Cup with his net one over 71. Later, he was also adjudged Golfer of the Year Trophy for his performance in the year 2009.

In the 19 to 24-handicap event, Sanjay Kumar scored 61 to clinch SBI Cup. In the same section, AK Singh Rana won the PK Bannerjee Cup with a net of 85. Nitin Kumar of Patna clinched IOC Cup in the 0 to 12-handicap event. Justice SK Katiyar captured the President’s Shield in the 13 to 18-handicap with one under-69. Arya Achint won the Baidyanath Cup with best gross in the same section.

Captain BP Sinha inked his name on the MP Sinha Cup in the 0 to 18-handicap event for Patna Golf Club (PGC) members. Ajit Kumar won the Captain’s Cup in the 19 to 24-handicap event for PGC members.

Baldev Singh won Takshila Cup for seniors. In the women section, Babita Kumar earned the crown winning the Potons Cup while Mrs Rana Alam won the PGC Cup.
Purnedu Singh bagged the “Wooden Spoon” honours.

Colonel Manjit Singh of Danapur won the Longest Drive award with a hit of 290 yards. Dinesh Thapa won the closest to the pin award while Namit Patwari of Jamshedpur got the minimum putt award. Sanjay Prasad of Ranchi won the PGC Trophy in the 0 to 24-handicap event. Ashutosh Mehrotra clinched the Beginners Cup.

Bihar Governor Debanand Konwar and Patna MP Shatrughan Sinha gave away the prizes at a gala function in the evening.
