Karnataka retain BSNL volleyball title


Patna, February 6, 2010: Karnataka stamped their authority on the All India BSNL volleyball championship title once again. In the last super league match of the 9th edition of the tournament, Karnataka edged out Tamil Nadu in a nail-biting five-setter to win the coveted crown at Telegraph Recreation court here on Saturday.

Karnataka won the first two sets 25-21, 25-18 but Tamil Nadu fought back to snatch the next two sets 23-25, 23-25. Tamil Nadu could not maintain the tempo and lost the final set 5-15.

Himachal Pradesh finished third while hosts Bihar were fourth. Himachal Pradesh beat Bihar 25-18, 25-23, 25-16.

Chief guest Rajender Singh, Director Enterprise, BSNL Board, handed over the trophy to the winning team and gave away prizes to the players. S Damodaran of Tamil Nadu bagged the man of the match award while T D Ravi Kumar of Karnataka was adjudged the best player of the tournament.

SC Misra, Chief General Manager, BSNL, Bihar Circle welcomed the guests. RP Singh, PGM, Patna Telephones proposed a vote of thanks. BK Srivastava, DP Mishra, AK Kanojia, Mukesh Nigam, AK Chakraborty, Mahendra Srivastava, AK Choubey, PN Jha and VS Gupta of Bihar circle were present on the occasion.
