Patna, August 30, 2009:
Delhi Public School dominated the concluding day of the 10th Montfort memorial table tennis tournament winning most of the titles at stake at Loyola School hall here on Sunday. In the senior boys’ singles event Piyush D Gandhi of DPS defeated Abhishek Kumar of Loyola High School 11-8, 11-6 and 11-9.
In senior girls’ singles event, Mandira Roy of DPS, Patna defeated her schoolmate Varsha Bhagyashree 11-5, 11-7.
Earlier on Saturday, Delhi Public School won the senior boys’ and girls’ team championship titles. St Michael’s High School, Patna ended their dry run in the tournament claiming the junior girls singles title. Surabhi (St Michael’s High School) defeated her own school’s Asmit Ravi by 11-6, 11-4.
Tanishka of Ishan International School, Patna and Prince R K Nanda of Mother’s International Academy, Patna, were declared the most promising players of the tournament. Later, chief guest, Vijay Shankar Mishra, former MLC, and former president of Bihar Table Tennis Association (BTTA), guest of honour Manoj Kumar, Deputy Manager, SBI, Rajendra Nagar Branch, and secretary, BTTA, Mukesh Roy, distributed trophies and certificates to the winners and runners-up at a colourful function.
