Patna clinch Moinul Haq Trophy

Patna clinched the 60th Bihar State inter-district football championships for Moinul Haq Trophy defeating East Central Railway, Samastipur division 5-4 via tie-breaker in Gaya on Saturday. With this win Patna stamped their authority on the trophy for 23rd time.

Babloo Thapa’s final kick found the target while Patna goalkeeper Surendra Guru made a full length dive towards right post to stop the kick taken by Samstipur’s Pankaj Kumar.
The match ended in a goalless draw after the end of regulation and extra time. It was a match full of thrill and excitement with strikers of both sides struggling hard to find the target despite their all out efforts.

Surendra Guru of Patna and Anup Kumar of Samastipur were declared best 11, while Md. Afzal was adjudged best 22 for the final match. Md. Shahbaz of Patna and Santosh Kumar of Gaya were declared best players of the tournament.

Magadh division commissioner, Dr KP Ramaiah, gave away the prizes. Magadh range DIG Praveen Vashishtha, Gaya DM, Sanjay Kumar Singh, SP, R Malar Vizhi, BMP-3 Commandant Ravindran Shankaran, Indian Sports Medicine national president Dr Farasat Hussain, AM Karimi and Khateeb Ahmad Khan were among others present in the final match.

Earlier, Patna set up title clash with East Central Railway, Samstipur defeating hosts Gaya 5-3 via tiebreaker. Debashish Roy put Patna into the lead in the 10th minute through his lone effort. Santosh Kumar equalized the lead in the 40th minute. At the breather, both the teams were locked 1-1.

The second half also failed to produce the result despite attacking soccer adopted by both the teams. The extra time also ended in 1-1. In the tiebreaker, Patna struck four goals while Gaya netted two.

Earlier on Tuesday (January 20), East Central Railway (ECR), Samastipur entered the final defeating Siwan 2-0 through tie-breaker in the first semi-final.
