70th Sr Nataional TT: PSPB get top billings


Patna, December 31
The men and women teams of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) got the top seeding in the team event of the 70th senior National and Inter-State table tennis championship to be held from January 5 at Secretariat Hall here.

RSPB and North Bengal took the second billings in the men and women sections respectively.
Talking to scribes here on Tuesday Organising Committee chairman and MLC, Sanjay Singh said Bihar Table Tennis Association was all set to host the tournament. “All the necessary arrangements have been done and final touches were being given at the venue”, he said.
He said the championships would be sponsored by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) and it would be known as RINL Vizag Steel 70th Senior National and Inter-State table tennis championship.

Singh said taking the magnitude of the event in account, the organising committee had approached several corporate houses for co-sponsorships. “We have got good response to this regard”, he said. Hindustan Times Media Limited had agreed upon to sponsor prizes for the tournament, he added.
Steel Authority of India Limited and IIFCO would be joint sponsors of the event. Bihar Government, State Bank of India and Idea Cellular had also extended their cooperation for the event, he said.
Bihar Table Tennis Association (BTTA) secretary Mukesh Roy said all 30 affiliated units of the Table Tennis Federation of India had confirmed their participation for the event.

BTTA president Dr Utpal Kant Singh said lodging and boarding facilities for players and officials had been arranged in the leading hotels of the State Capital.
He said Rs 6.50 lakh would be distributed among the players as prize money. BTTA office-bearers Prem Kumar, Mahadeo Prasad Yadav and NK Rastogi were present at the Press meet.
