Rajendra Prasad tennis: Devpriya in second round

Local lad Devpriya Jaiswal stormed into the second round of the Dr Rajendra Prasad memorial All-India Tennis Association (AITA) ranking prize-money tournament defeating Vandan Mehta (Guajarat) 6-1, 6-2 at Patliputra Colony courts here on Tuesday.

In the other matches of the day, Md Fariz trounced Viplab Das 6-1, 6-1. Mahendra Verman struggled to down Parthasarathi Bharat Srinivasan 7-6, 6-4. Dhruv Kumar outplayed Brhamhojeet Singh 6-2, 6-1.

In the women section matches, Asama Javed beat Tina Kulbashkar 6-1, 6-2 and Artika Chand got the better of Shreepriya Sarraf 6-2, 6-3.

Earlier on Monday, former Bihar sports minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal inaugurated the tournament. Bihar Lawn Tennis Association secretary Dr AB Prasad introduced the players with the chief guest. Nitin Navin, MLA, Kiran Ghai, MLC, GS Dutt and LB Singh were among the prominent dignitaries present at the opening function.

Men:Harshavardhan Dhirani beat Indrajeet Singh 6-1, 6-1; Bharat Bharadwaj beat Vikki Goswami 6-1, 6-0; Lakshit Sud beat Arman Chowdhary 6-2, 6-4; Hari Chidambaram beat Ishan Priyadarshi 6-0, 6-1; Robin Das beat Parshu Baratwal 7-5, 6-4; Manoj Sewa beat Momin Ali 6-0, 6-0; Javed Akbar Hazari beat Arvinda Sharma 6-1, 6-2; Kshitij Kamal beat Vijay Bharadwaj 6-3, 6-0; Rubal Shandilya beat Saurav Panja 6-3, 6-1.
