Hosts Bihar men and women crumbled out of the team events of the Vizag Steel 70th senior National and inter-state table tennis championships at the Secretariat Sports Club Hall here on Tuesday.
Bihar men failed to post a single match victory in their league and Bihar women too joined them for an identical exit before losing to Manipur 2-3 in a marathon battle.
In their last group D round III match Bihar were up against Manipur. Romita K placed Manipur ahead defeating Diplai Sarkar 12-10, 11-4, 11-7. Rainki Ghosh leveled the score with a 10-12, 11-5, 12-10, 11-7 win over Tombisana Devi. Chumki Mondal put Bihar 2-1 up in the third singles outplaying Ibeyaima Devi 11-2, 11-7, 11-4.
Hopes for an upset victory was very much in the air but Bihar girls faltered at crucial junctures. In reverse singles matches Tombisana Devi beat Deepali Sarkar 11-6, 11-3, 9-11, 11-6 in a four-setter while Romita K beat Rinki Ghosh 11-6,11-8, 5-11, 13-11 shutting the doors for Bihar.
Bihar men, however, failed to produce anything noteworthy losing meekly to Haryana in a round 3, group F match. Bihar's Lekh Raj lost to Mohit Verma 6-11, 2-11 and 7-11. Kishan Raj went down to Rajiv Ghai 4-11, 5-11 and 5-11 while Ani Raj captured a game against Deepak Malik before bowing 6-11, 11-6, 10-12 and 8-11.
Earlier on Monday, Bihar men lost to Delhi 0-3 in group F match while Bihar women fell flat against Dena Bank.
