Rajendra Prasad tennis: Shruti-Shilpi clash in semis

Shruti Jaiswal of Bihar finally achieved the women’s singles top four slots and set up a semi-final clash with her elder sister Shilpi Jaiswal in the Deshratna Dr Rajendra Prasad memorial AITA ranking prize-money tournament at the Patliputra Colony tennis courts here.

In the unfinished quarter-final match Shruti, struggled a bit to down Abhilasha Ahuja 6-3 in the decider. The score line was 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 in favour of Shruti on Saturday.

Nupur Kaul of Maharshtra was first to enter the final in women’s singles when she defeated her state-mate Deepana Vazirani in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in the first semi-final.

In the men’s singles, Md Fariz of Tamil Nadu will take on Chandril Sood of Delhi for the crown. Md Fariz, who had a tremendous going in the tournament thus far, beat Lakshit Sood of Delhi after surviving some anxious moments in the first set 6-4, 6-2 in the first semi-final. Chandril Sood was stretched by Shantanu Rajput of Delhi in the second semi-final. Chandril got the first set easily at 6-2. Shantanu bounced back in the second and captured the set at 6-3. Shantanu fought hard in the third but failed to hold his nerves at crucial juncture as Chandril won the set at 6-4.

Men’s doubles semi-finals;

Manoj Sewa and Saurav Panja (both West Bengal) beat Rahul Shandilya and Shantanu Rajput (Delhi) 6-2, 6-2; Chandril and Lakshit Sood (Delhi) beat Vandan Mehta (Gujarat) and Himanshu Mali (Maharashtra) 6-3, 6-3.

Women’s doubles semi-finals:
Nupur Kaul and Deepna Vazirani (Maharashtra) beat Susita Das (Orissa) and Shruti Jaiswal (Bihar) 3-6, 6-2, 6-1; Omlata Kumar Rai (UP) and Mohana Sarkar (West Bengal) vs Shilpi Jaiswal (Bihar) and Abhilasha Ahuja (Haryana) 4-6, 6-3-match unfinished.
