Saurabh Roop is Bihar senior chess champ


Patna, June 12, 2011: Saurabh Roop of Patna won the Bihar State senior chess championships title with seven points to his credit at Delhi Public School hall here.

After the end of ninth and final round play, seven players were tied with seven points for the top position. Better progressive scores were taken into account to decide the top four finishers of the tournament. In the final round Kumar Gaurav of Purnia defeated Saurabh Roop.

Deepak Kumar (Begusarai) and Rupesh Ranjan (Patna) got the second and third positions respectively.

Leader of the Opposition in Bihar Assembly Abdul Bari Siddiqui gave away the prizes. All Bihar Chess Association secretary Arvinda Kumar Sinha, Senior DPS School teacher Chetna Jha and Qumre Alam were the special guests in the function. Rakesh Ranjan, secretary, Patna District Chess Association welcomed the guests and Sanjay Tiwari proposed a vote of thanks.
