HI gets permission to host FIH Champions Trophy

New Delhi, June 16, 2011: Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of India has granted permission to Hockey India for hosting the 33rd FIH Champions Trophy and the London Olympic Qualifier Tournament for both Men and Women.

The Champions Trophy will be held in New Delhi from December 3 to 11, this year. The participating teams are Australia, England, Germany, India, Korea, Netherlands, Pakistan and Spain.

The teams will be divided into two pools and the tournament will be conducted on league-cum-knockout format.

The Olympic Qualifier will also be held in New Delhi from February 15-26, 2012. Six teams each in men and women sections will participate.

The five teams apart from India for both men and women which will participate in the qualification tournament will be determined after various continental championships being held later this year in Africa, Europe, Pan America and Oceania.

There will be three Olympic Qualifiers with India conducting the first one followed by Japan and Belgium. The winner of each of these qualification tournaments will play in the Olympic Games in London in 2012.
