Indian eves lose to Japan in hockey

Patna, June 23, 2011: India went down fighting 0-1 to Japan in the Quarter Final of the FIH Women's Champions Challenge 1 at Dublin, Ireland.

According to information received here, after a barren first half Japan found the winner when Aki Mitsuhashi scored in the 64th minute.

The match was well contested with both teams displayed a degree of caution.

In the second half Indian forwards penetrated into the Japanese striking circle repeatedly but forwardss Rani, captain Saba Anjum and Jasjit Kaur Handa could not beat goalkeeper Sakiyo Asano.

In a swift turnover Keiko Manabe threaded a perfect pass to Mitsuhasl from the midfield with the nippy Japanese striker pushing home past custodian Yogita Bali to give her team a semi final meeting against Spain.

India will now play South Africa tomorrow in the first of two placement matches for 5-8 positions.
