Haryana win sub-junior women hockey title

New Delhi, May 27, 2013: Haryana defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 3-2 in the final of the 3rd Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship (Finals) 2013 at Aish Bagh Hockey Stadium in Bhopal on Monday.

The goal scorers for Haryana were Sonika (3 min), Ritu (35 min) and Navneet Kaur (49 min) while Karishma (4 min) and Neelu (24 min) were on target for Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy failed to defend its title.  

Earlier, Jharkhand defeated Chandigarh 2-1 to claim third position. For Jharkhand, Reshma struck in the 28th minute from a goalmouth scramble following a left wing move and in the 46th minute Divya Dung Dung converted a penalty corner before its counterpart Saroj scored in the 64th minute via penalty corner. Chandigarh wasted few scoring chances in the first half of the game.

In the men’s category Punjab defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 1-0 in the hard fought match to claim third position. Punjab took the lead in the 30th minute with the penalty corner converted by Arvinder Singh.

Women
Final- Haryana 3 (Sonika 3, Ritu 35, Navneet Kaur 49) beat Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 2 (Karishma 4, Neelu 24)
Third / Fourth Position-Jharkhand 2 (Reshma 28, Divya Dung Dung 46) beatChandigarh 1 (Saroj 64)

Men

Third / Fourth Position- Punjab 1 (Arvinder Singh 30) beat Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 0
