Bangalore, September 27, 2012: In a rare gesture, Hockey Karnataka have
decided to present a Tata Nano car each to the best defender, best forward and
best player in the ongoing Hockey India’s second senior National men’s hockey
championship here.
The three award winners will be selected by a panel
comprising Olympians MM Somaya, N Mukesh Kumar and Dilip Tirkey besides a yet
to be nominated journalist, according to Hockey Karnataka’s secretary AB
Subbiah.
“When we first agreed to host the Nationals, we decided that
the event should be a benchmark for future competitions. Having been players
ourselves, we decided to provide the best possible environment for the teams to
perform at their very best
.
“The three Tata Nano cars that will be awarded to the best
defender, best forward and best player of the tournament is just an extension
of our efforts to showcase hockey in better light.
“We have also not spared any effort to ensure that the teams
are given best accommodation and hospitality including transport from their
lodgings to the venues. It is Hockey Karnataka’s hope that the teams will
return home with good memories,” said Subbiah.
