Sudha gets Bihar Best Sports Award






Patna, August 29, 2010: The Art, Culture & Youth Affairs Department, Bihar felicitated 243 sportspersons in the Khel Samman Samaroh, organized to celebrate National Sports Day and the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Major Dhyanchand at SK Memorial Hall here on Sunday.

Art, Culture & Youth Affairs Minister Renu Devi inaugurated the function. She also paid tributes to Major Dhyanchand by garlanding his photograph.

Later, the minister honoured Sudha Kumari with Bihar Best Sports Award and a cash prize of Rs 51,000. Sudha claimed a bronze medal in the Asian Cup powerlifting championship at Udaipur last year. She also won a gold medal in the Commonwealth powerlifting championship at Pune in December last.

Rashmi Kumari, who represented Indian team in SAF carrom tournament and won gold medal in singles and doubles events was awarded international category award and a cash prize of Rs 31,000.

Harendra Kumar Singh, the national hockey coach received the best coach’s award.

Vivek Kumar Singh, principal secretary, Art, Culture & Youth Affairs Department welcomed the guests. AK Seth, director general, Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA), Hem Chandra Prasad, director and Ajay Kumar Singh, secretary-cum-director, BSSA were present at the function.
