Patna, December 7, 2013: Abhinanshu Borthakur (Assam) won the men’s singles title of the Deshratna Dr Rajendra Prasad Memorial All India Ranking Tennis Tournament defeating Neeraj Choudhary (Madhya Pradesh) 7-6(7-1), 6-3 in the final at the Patliputra Tennis Centre court here.

Strong contender Aareyale Chavaan (Maharashtra) clinched the women’s singles crown beating Sanya Madan (UP) 6-3, 6-3.

The men’s singles final was a close affair where Neeraj was leading throughout the first set. But Borthakur hung in and somehow managed to win the first set. In the second set, he played a very solid tennis to win the match 7-6(7-1), 6-3.

The women’s final was a very one sided one. The top seed Sanya Madan simply could not put up her game together and lost her match. Aareyale won the match 6-3,6-3

Dr AB Prasad, secretary BLTA welcomed the chief guest Rotarian Bipin Chachan, president Rotary Club of Patliputra, who gave away the trophies. Kunal Aikat, chief coach BLTA proposed vote of thanks.
