East Champaran clinch Bihar Chief Minister Cup


Patna, March 11, 2010: East Champaran clinched the first Bihar Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament crown outplaying Patna by 62 runs at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.

Batting first East Champaran made a challenging 205 off 40 overs. In reply, Patna could manage to score 143 off 34.3 overs.

Ravi Prakash played a magnificent knock of 65 runs off 80 balls with six boundaries and one six. Ravi anchored East Champaran innings with an exciting partnership of 104 runs for the fourth wicket with Pintu Kumar, who made 40 runs with four hits to the fence. Naveen Gupta (32, 3x4) was the other useful scorer.

Patna bowlers Gopal and Anant claimed three wickets each for 41 and 36 runs respectively. Raj Kumar Raja took two wickets for 24 runs.

In reply, Satveer Kumar (38) and Deepak Kumar (24) showed a semblance of fight for Patna. Naveen Gupta took 4 wickets for 18 runs. Naveen was named man of the match.

Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Renu Devi jointly gave away the prizes. Ravi Prakash of East Champaran got the best batsman award while Naveen Gupta won the man of the series award. Gopal of Patna was named best bowler of the tournament.

Bihar’s Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Department secretary Vivek Kumar Singh welcomed the guests while Manoje Nath, director general of Bihar State Authority proposed a vote of thanks.
