Vijender Singh faces Andrzej Soldra in crucial fight on May 13

 Andrzej Soldra
Vijender Singh

London, May 7, 2016: Indian superstar Vijender Singh who is just one fight away from his summer Indian homecoming WBO Asia Title Fight, will face an experienced Polish Andrzej Soldra in his fifth fight at Macron Stadium, Premier Suite, Bolton (Lancashire) on May 13.

The red-hot super middleweight ace, who won Bronze at the 2008 Olympic Games has made an explosive start to his professional career in the paid ranks by blowing away his first five opponents, is undefeated in five fights with five knockouts in only 14 rounds of action.

The 30-year-old, from Bhiwani, is an icon in his homeland and his summer hero’s return will be a national homecoming event and he says that there is no way that rival Andrzej Soldra will upset that from happening.

Andrzej Soldra from Poland, comes into the fight against Vijender Singh with a record of 12 wins with 5 knockouts from 16 fights. The 30 year old has the edge in experience over Vijender Singh with 81 rounds under his belt and has no fear fighting his first fight abroad. Soldra also has a brilliant record in amateur career with 82 wins from 98 fights.
Soldra has only been stopped thrice in a professional career spanning over five years and will be looking to spoil the party when he makes his first appearance in UK soil. Vijender Singh knows it is crucial that he wins at the Macron Stadium before setting his eyes on a huge Indian homecoming.

Undefeated Vijender Singh claimed his fifth professional win at the Copper Box Arena last month with a blistering fifth round stoppage of Frenchman Matiouze Royer. The Indian knockout merchant ended the contest in the fifth round with a punishing stoppage win over Royer and will be looking to claim another KO win at the Macron Stadium.
Commenting on his sixth fight Vijender Singh said “I have seen videos of Soldra he is a good opponent but I am preparing very hard to give him a tough time in the ring. He’s very experienced though and with 16 fights and 81 rounds he’s got the advantage over me in that department but I will stop him”.

“I know this fight is very crucial for me and I need to continue my unbeaten record and it’s important that I put on a commanding performance against Soldra to keep on course for my title shot and my homecoming. I am really excited to finish off my sixth fight on a winning note and then compete for Asia title in front of my home crowd”.

However, Andrzej Soldra has threatened to stop the Indian Hotshot in his tracks and inflict this first loss on his record.

“Vijender has never met anyone like me and he will realize what it is like fighting with a real professional boxer on the 13th May. I will take great delight in handing Vijender Singh in his first loss and sending him back home to India beaten and broken. In fact I will tell you what I will do to him, I will smash him to the body to loosen him up and then a right hand to knock him out, just watch me” said Andrzej Soldra.

Vijender who had his last fight in December 2015, will be making his first appearance in the ring for this year.

In his daily routine, Bhiwani boxer is following one of toughest training regimes which top professional boxers like Mayweather and Pacquiao have been following during the peak of their pro career. The training includes shadow boxing, practicing footwork, practicing punching, movement, stance, speed and technique.

My strategy to knock him out is already in place and I am looking forward to see him on 12 March in the ring. I read in media reports that Horvath has made snake blood part of his diet but I don’t care at all being about my opponents as Desi Ghee is part of my diet from the beginning of my career” added Vijender.

Alexander Horvath feasts on snakes’ blood ahead of Vijender Singh clash

Alexander Horvath

Manchester, March 7, 2016: Hungarian warrior Alexander Horvath has been dining on the blood of snakes ahead of his huge showdown with Indian superstar Vijender Singh. The fierce Super-Middleweight bruiser takes on Vijender Singh at the Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday 12thMarch and believes drinking the blood from freshly killed vipers gives him supernatural powers over his opponents.

20 year-old Horvath is preparing for his clash with Singh in his homeland and has added fresh snake blood to his strict diet in the hope it will make him strong and powerful. Fresh snake blood is still popular in some parts of Hungary with many locals drinking it to harbour its supposed magical power.

“There is a long and proud tradition of drinking fresh snake blood in my family that goes back many centuries. Like my forefathers before me I am a true warrior and will stop at nothing to get my victory. Hungarian soldiers drank snake blood to defeat the Turks all those years ago and now I’m drinking it to beat Singh!” said Horvath.

He added: “The blood of these sacred animals makes me powerful beyond words. With snake blood coursing through my veins there in no way that Singh will defeat me. Since I’ve added snake blood to my diet I have been able to train harder than ever before without tiring and I’m punching harder than ever.”

Surprisingly, the Hungarian is not the only person in the world with this unusual dietary choice. U.S. Marines, regarded as some of the toughest soldiers in the world, have been known to drink Cobra blood as part of their gruelling jungle survival training.

The Maasai people of Southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania also enjoy to the odd glass of raw blood. Their traditional diet is almost entirely made up of blood and milk from their livestock which is rich in iron, protein and calcium; the perfect combination for a boxer!

There are several snakes indigenous to Hungary but Horvath has acquired a taste for the deadliest of them all; the viper! The Hungarian puncher will be looking to pounce early when he takes on Indian hero Singh over six rounds.

Horvath, who has the edge in experience over Vijender Singh with 31 rounds under his belt, holds a record of 5-1-1 (1) and plans on spoiling the party when he makes his first appearance in England. The Hungarian has no fear fighting abroad having fought in Slovakia and France and promises to give Singh the toughest night of his career.

He said: “I know there is a lot of hype around him and he’s a bit of a celebrity back in India but none of that will help him once he steps in the ring with me. I’m heading over to England to teach him a lesson in boxing and there’s only going to be one winner. On the night I will be too strong and too quick for him.”

Vijender’s fourth pro fight at Liverpool rescheduled to March 12

Manchester, February 2, 2016: Boxing sensation Vijender Singh’s fourth pro fight has been rescheduled from February 13 to March 12, 2016 at Echo Arena Liverpool. His opponent for the fourth fight will be announced soon.

The reason for rescheduling this fight is due to an injury to WBO World Lightweight Champion Terry Flanagan who was to take on world title defence against Derry Mathews.

The Mathews versus Flanagan showdown remains the headline attraction on the title packed show and the other title fights will stay the same, which are: red-hot 160 pound talent Tommy Langford’s defends his WBO Intercontinental Middleweight title defence against Lewis Taylor and English Cruiserweight Champion Matty Askin’s seeks justice in his rematch against Lawrence Bennett.

The undercard will feature some of the best domestic talent: Former IBF World Bantamweight Champion Paul Butler, Indian superstar Vijender Singh, and Liverpool top talents Tom Stalker, Steven Lewis, Ryan Farrag, Kevin Satchell, hot Manchester prospects Macaulay McGowan and Zelpha Barrett, and Leicester ace Lyon Woodstock.

Vijender Singh made a brilliant start of his professional career last year winning all three fights.

Commenting on rescheduling of his fight Vijender Singh “It’s very unfortunate that my fight on 13th February is rescheduled because of an injury to the contender of title fight. But nevertheless, I am preparing hard and waiting for 12th March 2016 when I see my opponent in the ring. I am doing more sparring and physical workout these days and it will help me to prepare myself for more rounds”.

Promoter Frank Warren said, “We’re all disappointed that Terry has suffered an injury and is unable to make the original date, but we’ve worked hard to ensure the mouthwatering world title showdown between Flanagan and Mathews remains the top of the bill for the new date of Saturday 12th March.  I maintain that it’s going to be real war between these two warriors who are going to put everything on the line on the night.  The rest of the card will remain the same with Langford and Askin in title defences and an undercard stacked with talent.”

Vijender Singh ready to rock like his Beatles idols!

MANCHESTER, JANUARY 7, 2016: India’s boxing superstar Vijender Singh is excited to fight in the city of his heroes for the first time on Saturday (February 13).
Undefeated middleweight Vijender Singh, who has won all his three fights by knockout inside three rounds, has his first fight of the year at the Liverpool Echo Arena and is looking to putting on another explosive performance at the birthplace of his idols - The Beatles.

Whilst boxers usually look to the sport’s legends like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard or greats like Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya for inspiration, the 30-year-old from Bhiwani, Haryana, says John, Paul, Ringo and George are his icons.
And while Vijender Singh is priming himself for action at the Echo Arena, his first port of call in the city will be the legendary Cavern Club on Mathews Street.

“When I turned professional in England I hoped that I would one day fight in Liverpool and fight at the birthplace of my heroes, now that dream will come true on February 13,” Said Vijender Singh.

“I love the Beatles music since I was a child back home and my parents are big fans of their music and I believe that my grandparents went to see them when they came to India in the late 1960s so growing up I remember all the hits Hey Jude, Yesterday, All You Need Is Love, Let It Be, Penny Lane, Here Comes The Sun, I love it all!”

“I can’t wait to get to Liverpool, I’ve never fought in the city before as an amateur so now I will get my chance to get down to the Cavern Club finally.  Madison Square Garden may be the home of boxing, but for me I have to get to the Cavern Club!”

“I admired boxing legends like Ali and Sugar Ray growing up, but they were never really my heroes, The Beatles however were the centre of my life growing up, I wanted to be a rock star! We’ll I’m rocking opponents in the ring now!”

Hotshot Singh aims to kick off his 2016 campaign in knockout style when he fights over six rounds in an international contest against an opponent to be announced and the 2008 Olympic Bronze Medallist is excited for the year ahead.

He added, “I ended the year in great style and now I’m looking to begin it in the same fashion by knocking out whoever is put in front of me.  This is an important year for me to continue developing and getting in more ring experience, but I’m looking to bring the excitement as well.”

Vijender Singh to take on Hyuseinov on December 19 at Manchester Arena

 Samet Hyuseinov
Vijender Singh

Manchester, December 7,  2015: Indian superstar Vijender Singh will take on experienced boxer Bulgaria’s Samet Hyuseinov on December 19 at the Manchester Arena.

Unbeaten Vijender Singh has steamed through his first two professional opponents, beating Sonny Whiting in his debut in October and followed that up with a one round demolition of Dean Gillen in Dublin last month.

The 30-year-old hot-shot now takes on Bulgaria’s experienced Hyuseinov for his third pro fight as he continues on his quest to become India’s first ever professional world champion and end the year undefeated.

Whereas Whiting and Gillen had a combined record of five fights, Hyuseinov has 14 fights under his belt, winning seven fights and losing seven, with a total of 68 rounds and extending a number of prospects the distance.

“This is another important fight for me that I must win so the pressure is on,” Said Vijender Singh.

“I’m unbeaten and intend to stay that way going into next year where I am looking at my first title fight so I’m not letting Hyuseinov mess up my plans to get my first championship belt,”

“While I got rid of Whiting and Gillen early, I’ll have to see what Hyuseinov brings to the ring on the night.  If I feel that I can take him out early I will go in for the early knockout and get the job done nice and quick,”

“He’s very experienced though and with 14 fights and 68 rounds he’s got the advantage over me in that department.  It’s a step up for me though and if I can deal with him before the end of the four rounds then I know that I’m improving. I am also looking at ending year 2015 with a win.

However, bolshy Hyuseinov has threatened to stop the Indian Express in his tracks and inflict the first loss on his record.

“Vijender Singh has never, never met anyone like me and he will realise what it is like with a real professional on the 19th December,”

“How can he look to fight for titles next year when he’s only had two fights and four rounds?  He thinks that I’m some fool he’s going to just knock over easily,”

“I will take great delight in handing Vijender Singh his first loss and sending him back home to India beaten and broken. In fact I will tell you what I will do to him, I will smash him to the body to loosen him up and then a right hand to knock him out, just watch me.”

“This country has many great, great, fighters that have come out over the years and the fans are very knowledgable so they know the real deal when they see it,”

“Steve Collins is one fighter that impresses me very much, his relentless pressure in the ring, his grit and determination and his fire and passion in the ring.  Of course he was world champion at my weight and at super-middleweight which is an amazing achievement to become a dual weight champion and I aim to aspire to his achievements one day,”

“My professional debut was only last month but it seems like ages ago so I’m desperate to get back in the ring and do what I do best, fight and win,”

“I’ll see what Gillen brings to the ring against me.  He’s another challenge so he’ll make me raise my game and perform.  I’ve been in the gym perfecting and improving and I’ll be looking to put on something a little bit special for the Irish fans.”

Vijender to play his second pro fight aginst Dean Gillen on October 30

Dean Gillen

London, October 20, 2015: Indian hotshot Vijender Singh will face unbeaten Dean Gillen in his big London debut on Friday 30th October at the Harrow Leisure Centre.

Middleweight Vijender Singh made an immediate impact in his professional debut this month when he destroyed Sonny Whiting in three rounds at the Manchester Arena.

The fight was televised live in India on Sony Six with an estimated 20m viewers tuning in - arguably the largest ever audience for a boxer’s professional debut.

Vijender Singh 29, who will be celebrating his birthday a day before second fight, will now face Nottingham’s Gillen over four rounds as he looks to claim the record of his first unbeaten pro fighter.

Gillen made his pro debut in May this year with a points win over Shaun White and followed that up in September with a points win over Lewis Van Poetsch.

The fight between Singh and Gillen also represents a Battle of the Badges, with Vijender Singh a Deputy Superintendent of Police in his native Haryana and Gillen a firefighter serving in Nottingham.

As an amateur, Gillen’s highlight was to win the 2013 World Police and Fire Fighter Games in Belfast where he knocked out all of his opponents to claim the Gold medal and now he aims to extinguish Singh’s fire in the ring.

Gillen, 33, said, “I’ve watched him in the Olympics and in his pro-debut, he’s a world class kid and I can’t wait to get in there and put him to the test,”

“He’s an Olympian and that speaks for itself, he’s a hero in his country and he’s idolised by millions of people, but at some point he’ll have to get beat and that could well be his second fight against me,”

“I’m certainly no journeyman and I’m not going in to make up numbers, I’m here to fight and win.  I know the odds are stacked against me, but when you’re facing life risking tasks through your job then fighting someone like Singh is a walk in the park,”

“I will be coming for him.  I’ve got the heart of a lion and a serious will to win.  I’ve got a strong jab and the reach to take advantage of him, backed up with a solid chin and a real desire and with nothing to lose, I think I’m going to be a really dangerous opponent for Singh,”

“Add to the fact I’ve never lost to a Police boxer in the amateurs and with stacks of pride and honour on the line, I refuse to lose,”

Vijender Singh is in serious training in Manchester with coach Lee Beard as he aims to beat Gillen and stay on track to achieve his history making dream to become India’s first ever world professional boxing champion.

“I can’t wait for this fight against Gillen, he’s talking the fight and it looks like he will bring me a challenge in my second fight,” Said Singh.

“From what I have seen of him he looks like a good opponent who will push me and I hope he does because then the better I will fight, I rise to my opponent and it brings the best out in me,”

“He’s got an unbeaten record, albeit two fights, and it’s a big motivator for me to claim his first loss, if I can stop him, like against Whiting, then that will be another good win for me,”

“While I was pleased with my pro-debut there is still plenty that I need to work on in my defence and offence and I’ve been training hard with Lee to correct things and improve, it’s a continual process and it will happen fight by fight,”

“Being a fireman, he’ll be used to dealing with fire and coping with heat but this is one fire he won’t be putting out and it will be an entertaining fight for the fans in my first pro fight in the capital.”

A quality packed show is headlined by WBO European Super-Middleweight Champion Jamie Cox who defends his title for the first time.  The undercard features red hot light-heavyweight Tom Baker from Chingford in the chief-supporting contest against Margate’s Jack Morris for the Vacant Southern Area Light-Heavyweight Championship.

The undercard features a host of top talents: Bushey light-heavyweight Miles Shinkwin, Islington light-middleweight Georgie Kean vs Nottingham’s Nathan Macintosh; West Ham light-middleweight Sam McNess vs Kevin McCauley; Ilford light-heavyweight Anthony Yarde vs Derby’s Elvis Dube; Jez Smith, younger brother of super-featherweight star Mitchell takes on Newark’s Fonz Alexanderover four rounds at middleweight; Acton flyweight Prince Patel faces GatesheadGary Reeve; Chingford lightweight Archie Sharp tackles Hereford’s Dean Evans; plus the professional debut of West Ham light-welterweight Ben Smith who faces Nuneaton’s Kristian Laight and also Sidcup’s light-welterweight D.P Carr who takes on Trowbridge’s Dan Carr.
