Commencing the game on an attacking note, both Malaysia and Singapore women teams showcased
some commendable stick work as they regularly made efforts to find gaps and
create prospects to score the opening goal of the game. Despite the constant
endeavors, the first quarter ended goal-less.
In the 24th minute, Fazilla
scored a stupendous field goal giving her team a 1-0 lead. It was closely
followed by another field goal from the stick of Rabiatul Mohamed in the 26th minute
as she gently pushed the ball directing it towards the goalpost. The ball
swayed past the goalie to hit the back of the net and doubled the lead for Malaysia . The
half time score stood at 2-0 with Malaysia in the forefront.
The third quarter began with a penalty corner being awarded
to Malaysia .
Fazilla once again took the strike and without leaving any room for mistakes,
efficiently converted it into the third goal for her side.
Towards the closing minutes of the quarter, Norbaini Hashim
passed the ball towards Nurul Mansur as the latter successfully put it in the
nets further elevating the score to 4-0. It was soon shored-up by another field
goal from Fazilla. By the end of the third quarter, the scoreboard showed a score
of 5-0.
Commenting on the game Ahmad Marfi, Coach , Singapore
said, “This defeat will help us increase our confidence level for the next
game as we take away lot of learnings from here. We played well and our moves
were organized. Even though the competition was tough but still we fought
well.”
Fatin Sukri Mahd, Coach ,Malaysia said, “In all probability we
will be playing Ghana
in the quarter final and the girls are aware that all the teams are very tough.
Ghana
girls will be giving their best and we will also have to focus to get another
win to reach the next level. Even though we scored 5 goals, I think we still
missed chances and we need to get more disciplined in order to convert penalty
corners. We will prepare better for the upcoming clash.”
