In the felicitation ceremony, chief guest Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports (Independent Charge) Jitendra Singh awarded cheques of Rs 1 Lakh to each player of the team and their coach Gregg Clark. Also a cheque of Rs 50,000 was awarded to each member of the teams support staff.
The midfielder Harjeet Singh was awarded an additional cheque of Rs 1 lakh for winning Most Promising Player of the Tournament Award in the 3rd Sultan of Johor Cup.
Also during the felicitation ceremony cash awards were presented to the members of senior men and women team. Dragflicker V R Raghunath who won Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament and goalkeeper P R Sreejesh who was declared Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the 9th Men’s Asia Cup were awarded a cheque of Rs 1lakh each. Forward Ramandeep Singh was also awarded a cheque of Rs 1lakh for scoring a maiden goal in his debut match at the 9th Men Asia Cup.
Goalkeeper Savita, member of the senior women team who was declared Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the 8th Women’s Asia Cup was also awarded cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
During the felicitation forward Rani, member of the senior women team was presented a trophy for completing her 100 International Caps in the match against
Rajiv Gupta, Secretary Ministry of Sports, Jiji Thomson,
Director General Sports Authority of India, Dr. Sunil Bharati, Head Corporate
Communications and Affairs, Cairn India felicitated the players and support staff
and Harbinder Singh (Government Observer) also felicitated the players and
support staff.
Jitendra Singh wished good luck to the Indian team for the
forthcoming Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Japan . “It’s a proud moment that
our hockey teams are winning medals in various prestigious tournaments. The
Government of India will give its full support to the game of hockey and we
hope that our teams will bring laurels to the nation” he said. Mr. Jitendra
