Indian women team announced for Hockey World League Round 2


NEW DELHI, February 5, 2013: Hockey India announced its senior women hockey team to participate in the Hero Hockey World League Round 2 to be held at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi from February 18 to 24, 2013.

Selection trials for the team were conducted at Netaji Subash National Institute of Sports, Patiala on January 19, 2013 witnessed by Hockey India selectors Col. Balbir Singh and Surinder Kaur along with Government observer Harbinder Singh and chief coach Neil Hawgood.

The 18-member squad will be captained by Ritu Rani while Chanchan Devi will be the vice-captain.

The camp for the preparations of the Hockey World league Round 2 is already in progress from January 4, 2013 and will continue till the commencement of the tournament.  

The six team tournament will be contested by the hosts India (FIH World Ranking 12), Japan (9), Russia (20), Malaysia (22), Kazakhstan (33) and Fiji (59).
The inaugural match of the league will be played between women teams of Japan and Fiji on February 18. The Indian Women team will take on Kazakhstan in their first match on February 18, followed by Malaysia (Feb 19), Fiji (Feb 21), Japan (Feb 22) and Russia (Feb 24).

This tournament is part of the qualification league for the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup 2014 to be held in The Hague, Netherlands
