Viraj Madappa shoots to lead in USHA IGU Delhi Junior Golf Championship

New Delhi, April 12, 2012: It was a topsy-turvy day at the Army Golf Course as Viraj Madappa played a blinder of a round to scale up in the USHA IGU Delhi Junior Golf Championship. Madappa who started the day with an overall score of 3 over 147 hit a 2 under 70 today to take a one stroke lead over Manu Gandas who had a level par score today.

Surprisingly, Mohan Sardar who played exceptional golf on first day couldn’t get the hang of changing winds and finished the day with a terrible score of 9 over 81.

Rajasthan’s Prakhar Asawa who has played consistent round of Golf was tied second with Gandas. Madappa who teed off from the 10th hole scored birdies at 1st, 5th, 8th and 17th holes also bogeyed 2nd and 6th hole. But with his clinical putting and some scintillating driving, Madappa has created a great opportunity for himself to reach win the tournament by playing consistent golf on the final day.

Delhi’s Honey Basioya also had a good day in the greens as he scored a one under 71 on third day today. But his efforts could only fetch him 6th place on the leader board. But he would draw a lot of inspiration from the way Mudappa played to start the final day of the tournament well.

The day also belonged to category A player Shubhankar Sharma who hit a 3 under 69 by hitting 5 birdies. But his previous days performance of 7 under 151 has left him at 5th place with an overall score of 220.
