Indian team for 7th Junior Men’s Asia Cup hockey announced


New Delhi, April 11, 2012: Hockey India announced an 18-member Indian team for the 7th Junior Men’s Asia Cup tp be held at Malacca (Malaysia) from May 3 to 13.

The 9 teams in the tournament include Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, JapanKorea, Malaysia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka

India won the last two editions of the championships at Karachi and Chennai in 2004 and 2008 respectively. This tournament will be the qualifier for the FIH Junior Men’s World Cup to be held in 2013.

The squad will be captained by striker Akashdeep Singh while defender Amit Rohidas will be the vice-captain.

The team: Goalkeepers- Sushant Tirkey, Keshav Dutt; defenders-Sukhmanjit Singh, Amit Rohidas (vice-captain), Sampath Kumar; midfielders-Pardeep Mor, Harjit Singh, Surender Kumar, Gurmail Singh, Prabhdeep Singh,.Satbir Singh,.Munish Rana; forwards-Mandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh (captain), PL Thimmanna,.Malak Singh, Sukhdev Singh,.Naveen Antil.
Standbys: Bhisham Singh Phairembam (GK), Gaganpreet Singh (defender), Amit Kumar (midfielder), Jarmanpreet Singh (midfielder), Amon Mirash Tirkey (midfielder), Talwinder Singh (midfielder), Ranjit Singh (forward), Parvinder Singh (forward).
