Indian women beat USA to get third place


Patna, April 22, 2012: India beat USA 1-0 to claim bronze medal in the second leg of Women Four-Nation Hockey Tournament at Llyod Elsmore Hockey Stadium in Pakuranga, Auckland.

According to information received here, Indian midfielder Deepika scored the all-important goal in the 40th minute after the two teams were locked goalless in the half time.

India showed good temperament and defended stoutly to deny USA, who have already qualified to play in the London Olympics to score.
Indian defence and midfield were compact with Joydeep Kaur, Ausnta Lakra, Deepika and Ritu Rani making timely interceptions.

Indian goalkeeper Yogita Bali made some splendid saves and was declared best goalkeeper of the tournament.
