66 boys and girls teams participating in 26th National Sub-Junior Kabaddi




Altogether 66 boys and girls teams participated in the march past to mark the beginning of the 26th National Sub-Junior Kabaddi Championships in Patna on November 5, 2014. Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi inaugurated the meet. Speaking on the occasion he said state government had given the responsibility to different state-owned corporations to adopt a game and nurture the talents.

Indian junior women go down 1-2 against New Zealand in hockey Test

New Zealand, November 5, 2014: Taking on the home team in the opening match of the six-match test series being played at the TET Multi-sports Centre, Stratford, the Indian junior women hockey Team went down by 1-2 against New Zealand in a tough clash, today.

The game saw both the teams giving a hard time to each other every time one of the teams tried penetrating the opponent's D, as the game witnessed the defence of both the teams at an all time high. With a great defensive show by the teams, the first half of the match saw a dry as both the teams failed to open the goal account.

Continuing their defensive game in the second half of the match as well, both the teams could not manage to score even a single goal till the 53rd minute of the match. It was only in the 54th minute of the game when New Zealand's Rachel McCann managed to sneak in a penalty corner and open the account her team by 1-0. Danielle Sutherland managed to support her teammate and taking the lead ahead at 2-0 by scoring a field goal in the 63rd minute of the game.

The Indian Junior Women Hockey Team showed signs of life immediately after conceding the second goal from New Zealand, as India's Namita Toppo took no time in replying with a field goal in the 64th minute and helped India to open the goal account and reducing the margin by 2-1. Putting on an attacking fight in the dying minutes of the game, the Indian Junior Women Hockey Team failed to penetrate more goals and lost the match to New Zealand with the final score of 2-1 on board.

India will be taking on New Zealand again on tomorrow for their second match of the ongoing six-match Test series.

India outplay Australia 2-1 in the 2nd hockey Test


Perth (Australia), November 5, 2014:  After losing the first match against Australia, the men hockey team displayed a remarkable performance against the host team and outplayed the Kookaburras 2-1 today in the second match of the India-Australia four-match Test series, played in Perth.

India started with aggressively and kept the opponents busy in the first two quarters of the match. In few occasions, they managed to sneak into Australian defence-line and created good opportunities to take initial lead. However, Australia drew the first blood in the 30thminute when forward player Matt Gohdes deflected a shot and sent the ball into the box, taking the lead 1-0 just before the end of 2nd quarter.

In the third quarter, Australia earned a penalty corner which was well-defended and immediately attacked the Australian D through a long pass. It was Sardar who cleverly forwarded the ball to Ramandeep Singh and the forward player did no mistake in netting the ball, and helped his team equalise in the 33rd minute.

The equaliser saw India increase its tempo and they attack yet again the very next minute through a long pass at the D of Australia. This time, it was SV Sunil who single-handedly took the ball to the opponents’ D and cleverly ensured that he puts the ball past the goalkeeper, giving India the second goal and the lead.


In the fourth quarter, both India and Australia fought neck-to-neck and challenged each other to score. India continued their attacking game till the last minute and tried to create more chances but they faced defensive Australia, who managed to hold the scorecard at 1-2 till the final whistle.
