CAB Telecom Cup begins; Airtel lose first match

Patna, January 12, 2010: Defending champions Airtel began their title hunt on a disappointing note losing their first match in the second CAB Telecom Cup cricket tournament at the outer ground of the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Tuesday.

Infotech outplayed Airtel by 64 runs. Earlier, in the first match, runners-up Aircel recorded easy five-wicket win over Accord Engineers.

Batting first, Accord Engineers made 140 for seven wickets off 20 overs while Aircel raced to the target losing five wickets off 19.4 overs.

Infotech put up decent 197 for five wickets off 20 overs with half centuries coming from the bats of Kislay (51) and Amalesh Kumar (57). In reply, Airtel could manage to score 133 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Amlesh Kumar (Infotech), who scored 57 runs and claimed three wickets for 27 runs was adjudged man of the match while in the second match RK Diwedi (Aircel), who scored 42 runs, was named man of the match.

Earlier, Manoje Nath, Director General, Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA), and former India under-19 cricket team captain, Amikar Dayal jointly inaugurated the championships.

Brief scores: Accord Engineers: 140 for seven wickets in 20 overs (Ajay-25, Kundan-25, Sanjay-17, Utpal-13, Manish Kumar-3/32 and Gaurav-2/14). Aircel: 141 for five wickets in 19.4 overs (RK Diwedi-42, Rahul Kumar-41, Chandan Bose-12, Vinay-3/29)

Infotech: 197 for five wickets in 20 overs (Kislay-51, Amalesh Kumar-57, Ashok-16, Manish-2/43). Airtel: 133 for nine wickets in 20 overs (Nitesh Kumar-20, Keshav-16, Amalesh-3/27, Nishant-2/25)
