16 teams to play in Bihar women football tourney

Patna, March 26, 2011: Sixteen district teams have confirmed their participation in the 7th Bihar state women football championship to be held in Purnia from April 6, according to a Press release of the Bihar Football Association.

On the opening day, Patna will take on Siwan and Samastipur will meet hosts Purnia.

Muzaffarpur win Hayman Trophy

Patna, March 26, 2011: Muzaffarpur won the Inter-district “A” division cricket championships title for the Hayman Trophy beating Siwan by four wickets at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Saturday.

Using the strip first, Siwan collected 124 runs all out off 35 overs while Muzaffarpur reached the target losing six wickets off 26 overs.

Siwan lost their five wickets for just 50 runs on the board. The ninth wicket partnership between Asif Javed and Sahir Sunny provided some respectability adding 38 runs. Asif Asif Javed remained unbeaten on 28 runs. Ranjan Kumar took three wickets for 23 runs.

Nishant Kumar of Muzaffarpur got the man of the tournament award while Sankalp Saurav (also from Muzaffarpur) was adjudged man of the match.

In reply, Muzaffarpur achieved the target off 26 overs losing six wickets.

Former Test cricketer Syed Saba Karim, former India under-19 cricket team skipper Amikar Dayal and Pawansut Group of Companies chairman Ram Awadesh Singh, distributed the prizes jointly. Bihar Food and Consumer Protection Minister Shyam Rajak was the chief guest and he witnessed final the match.

Siwan move into Hayman Trophy final

Patna, March 25, 2011: Siwan moved into the final of the Inter-District “A” division cricket tournament for Hayman Trophy beating Bhagalpur by two wickets at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday.

Sahir Sunni of Siwan, who bagged five wickets for 26 runs, was adjudged man of the match. Former Test Cricketer Syed Saba Karim gave away the man of the match award to Siwan player.

Batting first, Bhagalpur made 59 runs. Siwan raced to the target losing eight wickets off 16.2 overs.

Sanjeev Choudhary of Bhagalpur (12) and Imran Nazir of Siwan (10) could manage to reach the double figures.

Brief scores: Bhagalpur: 59 all out in 14.4 overs (Sanjeev Choudhary-12, Me Extra-19, Sahir Sunni-5/26, Mushtaque-2/11, Atul Sinha-2/14).

Siwan: 60 for eight wickets in 16.2 overs (Imran Nazir-10, Extras-10, Shekhar-3/20, Ashutosh-2/11).

Indian Overseas Bank and Indian Air Force move into semifinals

Patna, March 23, 2011: Indian Overseas Bank and Indian Air Force booked their place in the semifinals of the All-India volleyball tournament winning their all league matches of their respective pools at Gandhi Maidan here on Wednesday.

In the day’s most exciting match, Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre Raibareilly struggled hard to down Combined Army in a five-set drama 23-25, 25-12, 25-21, 14-25 and 16-14.

Results: Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) beat CSES 25-10, 25-22, 25-20; Indian Air Force beat Chhattishgarh 25-20, 25-14, 25-13; NF Railway beat Bihar 25-15, 25-11, 24-26, 25-18; CSES beat Combined Army 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23; Indian Air Force beat Bihar 25-22, 25-11, 25-18 and IOB beat SAI Raibareilly 25-16, 25-12, 25-12.

Muzaffarpur enter Hayman Trophy final

Patna, March 23, 2011: Muzaffarpur entered the final of the Inter-district ‘A’ division cricket championships for Hayman Trophy defeating hosts Patna by 41 runs at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Wednesday.

Batting first Muzaffarpur made 181 all out off 38.5 overs and then bowled Patna out 140 runs off 31.5 overs.

Nishant Prakash of Muzaffarpur, who took four wickets for 19 runs, was declared the man of the match. The tournament has been organised by Lalu Prasad-led Bihar Cricket Association.

All-India volleyball tournament begins



Patna, March 22, 2011: An All-India volleyball tournament began at the Gandhi Maidan here on Tuesday. The tournament is being organized by the Human Resources Department of the Bihar Government and Dr Shiv Narayan Singh Sports Foundation jointly as part of the Bihar Day celebrations.

In the opening match of the evening, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) beat Combined Army 25-13, 25-11, 25-16.

Eight teams in men’s section and four in women section have been playing in the tournament.

Earlier, Patna Sahib MP Shatrughan Sinha inaugurated the tournament in a colourful opening function. Dr RN Singh, president of the Dr Shiv Narayan Singh Sports Foundation presided over the function.
