The Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) player did it with great comfort and élan to clinch the men’s singles title of the Vizag Steel 70th senior National and inter-state table tennis championships at the Secretariat Sports Club Hall here on Sunday evening. It was his hat-trick of men’s singles titles. On the way of his feat, he beat first time finalist Pathik Mehta of Gujarat 4-1 (12-10, 11-8, 11-4, 9-11, 12-10).

Mouma, who earlier won the women's doubles title combining with another former national champion Poulomi Ghatak, staged a fighting comeback to make the score 2-3 by winning the fourth and fifth games of the match after losing the first three tamely. Shamini bagged the first three games 11-8, 11-8, 11-6 while Mouma captured the next two 11-8, 11-8.

Although Mouma recaptured her touch late in the match, her effort was not enough to disrupt the rhythm of the Chennai girl, who clinched her maiden national crown by winning the fifth set 13-11.

Sharath, who beat Sourav Chakraborty of RSPB 4-1 in the last-four stage, had not faced much problem in edging past Pathik of Gujarat en route the national title for the fourth time. After winning a close first game 12-10, the 26-year-old Sharath took command of the situation and won the next two games 11-8, 11-4. Pathik showed his guts winning the fourth game 11-9 but the lanky Chennai boy quelled the challenge to wrap up the match 12-10.

Sharath became richer by Rs 1.54 lakh while Shamini was awarded Rs one lakh.
These apart, Ashlesha Bodas of Maharahtra-A and Pathik Mehta were conferred with special awards for their commendable performances among men and women, respectively.
