Indian eves lose 1-4 against the men team of Dutch hockey club

Valencia (Spain), February 19, 2015: Playing against the men team of Dutch hockey club- Groningsche Cricket en Hockey Club (GCHC), the Indian eves went down struggling 4-1 to the opponent in a hard fought match. The matches are in preparation for the FIH World League Round 2, to be held in New Delhi from March 07 - 15.

Led by Captain Ritu Rani, the Indian women hockey team started off the game against the GCHC men on a high as they employed their finest tactics to create several scoring chances throughout the match. With their fine defensive skills, the eves also posed a tough challenge to the strong and sturdy men of GCHC as the opposite team looked for gaps to sneak in goals for their side. GCHC opened their scoring in the 8th minute through a field goal and took an early lead over the Indian women. The men’s team from Holland doubled their lead in the 21st minute, again through a field goal as the ball swung past the Indian goalie and touched the nets.

In the 28th minute, Yendala Soundarya scored the first goal for India as she beautifully converted a baseline pass from Navjot Kaur. This gave the Indian women a chance to make a comeback in the game against the men from Holland as they continued to take shots at the goal post. GCHC again scored in the 36th and 64th minute, both field goals and gained an insurmountable lead of 4-1 which remained on the scoreboard till the final whistle as it announced a win for GCHC men over the Indian women hockey team.

Coach C.R Kumar was pretty happy with the team’s performance as the eves played a good game against the strong and well-built men’s team and created a number of opportunities for themselves, putting up a good show and missing a couple of them only by a whisker.
