Smita earns a grand double in school TT

Patna, April 19, 2010: Smita Ravi of St Michael’s School claimed a grand double in the NMIT inter-school table tennis tournament, winning sub-junior and junior girls’ singles titles at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Monday.

Smita Ravi beat Varsha Bhagyasri 11-7, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9 in the sub-junior girls’ singles final. She again prevailed over Varsha 11-7, 11-5, 4-11, 11-7 in the junior girls’ singlesfinal.

Rahul Kumar of Patna Central School clinched the junior boys’ singles title beating Amit Kumar of Holy Mission 13-11, 15-13, 11-13, 6-11, 16-14 in a evenly matched contest.

Piyush D Gandhi and Rahul Praksh won the junior boys’ doubles title defeating Rahul Kumar and Ankit Kumar 11-4, 11-6, 3-11 and 11-7.

Vice-president of the Bihar Table Tennis Association (BTTA) Mahadeo Prasad Yadav, Naresh Kumar Verma and Diwakar Chouhan (both from NMIT) jointly distributed the prizes. Mukesh Roy, secretary, BTTA welcomed the guests.
