Defending champs Andhra Pradesh lose to Tamil Nadu in their first match




Patna, May 24, 2010: It was a sad beginning for Defending champions Andhra Pradesh in the Acharya Sudarshan 21st Junior National throwball championships at the Patna Central School ground here on Monday.
Andhra Pradesh boys lost to Tamil Nadu 8-15, 11-15. Hosts Bihar and runners-up Delhi got their momentum going in the other matches of the boys’ section. Bihar got the better of Orissa in a thrilling three-setter 15-11, 11-15, 15-8 while Delhi trounced Himachal Pradesh 15-1, 15-5.

In girls’ section, Bihar humbled Chhattisgarh 15-1, 15-5. Tamil Nadu humiliated Punjab 15-1, 15-0. Madhya Pradesh drubbed Haryana 15-0, 15-3. Pondicherry slammed Jammu and Kashmir 15-2, 15-5 while Delhi beat Uttar Pradesh 15-0, 15-5.

In the other encounters of the boys’ group, Madhya Pradesh prevailed over Karnataka 15-10, 15-12. Orissa outplayed Punjab 15-5, 15-6. Haryana beat Jammu and Kashmir 15-0, 15-0 and Chhattisgarh defeated Pondicherry 15-8, 15-1.

Earlier, Throwball Association of Bihar (TAB) felicitated Acharya Sudarshan Jee Maharaj and SB Prasad, CMD, Star India Construction for their distinguished contributions to Bihar sports. Throwball Federation of India chairman Naresh Maan felicitated the two dignitaries by presenting them a shawl and silver crown.

Speaking on the occasion, Acharya Sudarshan Jee Maharaj urged the participants to lead a disciplined life for success in every field. “There is no substitute of hard work and there is no short cut to success”, he added.
