Manoj Sewa faces Saurav Panja in final


Patna, October 23, 2009:
Manoj Sewa of West Bengal will take on state mate Saurav Panja in the men’s singles final of the Hubnet AITA ranking tennis championships at Patliputra Colony courts here.

In the semi-finals played on Friday, Manoj overcame a stiff challenge from Rubal Shandilya of Delhi 6-2, 7-6 (5) while Saurav Panja outplayed Bihar’s Devpriya Jaiswal in a one-sided match 6-1, 6-0.

In women’s singles semi-final matches Rani Smita Jain (IAF) outclassed Bihar’s Shilpi Jaiswal 6-4, 6-2 while Shweta G. Khakandaki (TN) edged past Ikteesh Chahal of Delhi 7-5, 6-4 to enter the final.

In the men’s doubles, the pair of Anshuman Dutta (Assam) and Chandrashekhar Mohanty (Assam) set up title clash West Bengal combination of with Surabh Panja and Manoj Sewa.

In women’s doubles, the Bengal-Tamil Nadu pair of Depti Srivastava and Shwetha GKakhandki will face Shilpi Jaiswal (Bihar) and Deepna Vazirani (Maharashtra) for the crown.

Results:
Men’s singles semi-finals: Manoj Sewa (WB) beat. Rubal Shandilya(Delhi) 6-2,7-6(5); Saurav Panja (WB) beat Devpriya Jaiswal (Bihar) 6-1, 6-0.
Women’s singles semi-finals: Shweta G. Khakandaki (TN) beat Ikteesh Chahal (Delhi) 7-5, 6-4; Rani Smita Jain (IAF) beat Shilpi Jaiswal (Bihar) 6-4, 6-2.
Men’s doubles semi-finals: Anshuman Dutta (Assam) and Chandrashekhar Mohanty (Assam) beat Bibaswan Dev (WB) and Farid Alam (WB) 6-2,6-4; Surabh Panja (WB) and Manoj Sewa (WB) beat Devpriya Jaiswal (Bihar) and Chinmay Pradhan (Orissa) 6-4,6-3.
Women’s doubles semi-final: Depti Srivastava (WB) and Shwetha G.Kakhandki (TN) beat Ikteesh Chahal (Delhi) and Susita Das (Orissa) 6-2,6-3; Shilpi Jaiswal (Bihar) and Deepna Vazirani (Maharashtra) beat Shruti Jaiswal (Bihar) and Pamir Gogoi (Orissa) 6-1, 6-2.
